July 14– "Fort Johnston: A Civil War Story"


The North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport will showcase authentic North Carolina culture and heritage on Saturday, July 14, in the second installment of the popular three-part summer program “2nd Saturdays.”

The theme for July at the Museum is “Fort Johnston: A Civil War Story.” Artists include: photographer Jeri Ward, photographer Melissa Gordon, watercolor artist Linda Carole - www.lindacorole.com, Turtle Track Pottery - Donna Michaux, musician P.D. Midgett, authors Sharon Claudette Smith and Sherry Monahan – book signing for “Southport,” crafter Don Fererro of B Carter Horn Works, knifemaker William Bisher of Black Turtle Forge - www.blackturtleforge.com, artist Donald Byrum, jewelry designer Kathleen Hoff and more.

The Museum will also offer Civil War-themed activities, such as:

  • Civil War Medical Demonstrations by Col. Gary Riggs
  • Costumed Civil War Tours by Historian Leland Smith
  • Artillery Demonstrations by Battery B Second U.S. Colored Light Artillery
