Lindow Wins Battle of the Boats for 2nd Year in a Row
The Third Annual Battle of the Boats was hosted by the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort on Monday, May 30.
Participants maneuvered their boats through a course along the docks of the Museum’s Gallants Channel site on West Beaufort Road.
“This was a race against the clock with one contestant at a time maneuvering their vessel through the course,” said Brent Creelman, Director of Operations for the Friends of the Museum. “The course is designed intentionally to gauge the skill of the boat driver and not the all out speed of the various boats.”
Each contestant ran the course three times with the combined times determining the winner.
Last year’s champion, Noah Lindow, 15 years old of Beaufort, piloted the smallest boat in the competition – a 14-foot johnboat with a 15 horsepower outboard, to his second victory in as many years.
Interested boat owners that would like to compete in 2012 should contact Brent Creelman at (252)728-1638. All boats less than 25’ are welcome to participate.
